US Financer is a new, independent money site. Every page is written by one of the five staff writers below, each with a defined beat, and each page carries the name of the person who wrote it.
How we work
The writers share a few habits. They start from primary sources: statutes, regulator guidance, lender disclosures, exchange terms and official filings, rather than secondhand summaries. When a page involves cost, they show the math, so a reader can see what a loan, fee or tax outcome actually comes to in dollars. When a page involves a right or a rule, they quote or paraphrase the official text and say where it comes from. Pages are dated and updated when the underlying facts change.
Dana Whitfield
Staff writer, loans and borrowing
Dana covers payday loans, personal and installment loans, bad credit borrowing and cash advance apps. Her pages focus on what a loan costs over its full term, not just the advertised rate. She works from lender fee schedules, state lending rules and app terms of service, and lays out the total repayment figure for a given amount and term so readers can compare options on the same footing.
Marcus Bell
Staff writer, credit and debt
Marcus covers credit scores and reports, debt consolidation, credit counseling, debt settlement and debt collectors. He writes from the rules that govern these areas, including federal consumer credit and debt collection law, and from the published policies of the credit bureaus and scoring companies. When a page compares ways to handle debt, he runs the numbers on interest, fees and time to payoff rather than relying on general claims.
Elena Ruiz
Staff writer, money basics and your rights
Elena covers money emergencies, assistance programs, budgeting, banking basics and borrower rights. Her pages are written for people who need a clear answer quickly, often under pressure. She works from program eligibility rules, bank fee disclosures and the official text of consumer protections, and she explains each term in plain language before using it.
Owen Park
Staff writer, crypto
Owen covers coins and tokens, buying and selling, wallets and self-custody, and staking and DeFi. He writes from exchange fee tables, protocol documentation and on-chain data, and he spells out the costs and risks of each step, including trading fees, network fees and the trade-offs of holding your own keys. His pages describe how things work; they do not recommend specific assets.
Nadia Cole
Staff writer, crypto taxes and regulation
Nadia covers crypto taxes, IRS guidance, regulation, and scams and fraud reporting. She works directly from IRS notices, forms and instructions, from regulator statements and enforcement actions, and from official channels for reporting fraud. Her pages include worked examples of how a sale, swap or staking reward is treated for tax purposes, with the relevant guidance named so readers can check it themselves.
Ruth Adler, Standards Editor
Ruth is US Financer's standards editor. Every article goes through her checks before and after it is published: each rate, fee, cap, deadline and rule is matched against its primary source, every law named is linked to its official text, and anything that cannot be confirmed is corrected or taken out. She also handles reader corrections and keeps the What changed log on each page.
Expert review
Some pages will be reviewed by a qualified expert in the relevant field, such as a licensed tax professional or a credit counselor. When that happens, the page will show the reviewer’s name, their credential, and a link that lets you verify the credential with the issuing body. Reviewer profiles will be listed on this page as reviewers join. Until a page shows a named reviewer, it has not been expert reviewed, and we will not claim otherwise.
Contact and corrections
If you find an error on any page, we want to know. Each page shows its author, and corrections are noted on the page once made.
